R2W Tournament 2018

Wythall held their annual R2W over the weekend of May 12th and 13th

Before I summarise the tournaments I want mention two juniors making their debut at this level, Nishani Sacitharan and Ben Brewster, both played really well. Although they did not feature in the latter part of their events Nishani and Ben showed real character throughout the afternoon. Well done and no doubt you will both benefit from the experience.

R2W Girls:

Six girls entered who were Mia Enright, Nithusha Sacitharan, Isobel Goodchild, Isabelle Talliss, Boo Vale and Nishani Sacitharan. The standard of match play was impressive throughout the tournament with many closely contested matches. The final was between Mia and Boo. The view was whoever broke serve first would be favourite as both girls make very few errors. This proved correct, Mia broke and although Boo fought hard Mia retained the advantage to take the title. Both girls now play league tennis for the ladies team.

R2W Boys:

Five boys entered the event; these were Thomas Csincsi, Charlie Spencer, Ben Brewster, Alfie Newbold and Jacob Cheal. As in the girls tournament the standard of play remained at the highest level. Charlie and Alfie in particular showed why they have been invited to become intermediates at such a young age. The final though was between by Jacob and Thomas. Jacob broke in the 2nd game and remained in command despite Tom’s efforts so retaining his title he won in 2017.

Our finalists now represent Wythall on the weekend of July 14th – 15th and everyone at the club wishes them well.

All of our juniors have at sometime have been part of our junior tennis academy and if anyone is interested in their child joining us details are on the coaching page.

Thanks again to Malcolm Fletcher for running the tournaments. I know juniors and parents alike appreciate the time he gives to make these events a success.
