In 2017 Wythall Tennis Club were awarded a grant of £17,970 by the New Homes Bonus Community Grant scheme. The grant allowed us to convert court 3 to artificial grass. By laying an artificial surface on court 3 the club will extend junior coaching and tennis for the community over winter months. Chairman, Chris Maggs and Treasurer, Karin Vale presented our application to the panel supported by Councillor, Sue Baxter. Our thanks goes to Sue, as she was on hand throughout our application to offer advice whenever it was necessary.
On May 12th 2018, Councillor Sue Baxter officially opened court 3. The artificial grass extends playing time, including community and junior sessions during the winter therefore providing tennis throughout the year. This will cater for the growing interest in the sport which has been engineered by the club policies over the years. We already have a thriving junior section so the additional artificial grass surface will extend coaching over the whole year instead of being limited to March until October. This new surface on court 3 allows junior/adult coaching and Pay & Play sessions to extend over the winter months even in wet or frosty conditions. Additionally, for those dark winter evenings court 3 is already floodlit so matches can commence all year round.
Thanks to all members and their families for attending the official opening of court 3.
