2019 Newsletter

Chair of our club, Chris Maggs, has said a couple of words towards 2019…

Hello everyone,

We aim to be a friendly and inclusive club, encouraging people of all ages and levels of experience to have the opportunity to play and enjoy tennis. Whether you are a full member, a junior or someone who can only play occasionally, this is your club. Or perhaps you are looking at the possibility of joining. Be assured that you would be very welcome. You will be able to find plenty of opportunity to improve your game, keep fit and enjoy the experience.

Our club is situated within a beautiful private park run by the Wythall Community Association. This is a charitable trust which relies on a team of local volunteers. There is a small annual subscription of £10 to be a member of the WCA, enabling full use of the park. If you are not already a member then we can collect your subscription along with your Tennis Club membership fees and pass them on. If you are a member then we just need confirmation of your membership number to let the WCA know. You can extend your membership to include Wythall Community Club if you would like to. We have included details of the benefits and an application form in this pack so that you can decide if this suits you better. Payment for membership of the Community Club (which includes WCA membership) must be arranged directly with WCA, but we are happy to act as nominator and seconder of your application.

We were really pleased to have another of our courts laid with artificial grass last year. They are proving to be very good surfaces, allowing play to continue in wet weather. Thank you to all who voluntarily take care of the courts and the surrounding area with sweeping, weeding, moss control and litter picking. You are much appreciated. We encourage everyone to do their bit in and around the courts and clubhouse to keep our facilities in good shape.

Our coaching team of Alex Doffman and Kevin Turner continue to provide a wide range of options for all ages. We encourage juniors to participate in local competitions and have had some notable successes. Youngsters are invited to join with the adult players as they develop so that they gain experience and again this has proved beneficial in improving everyone’s game. There are opportunities for adult beginners, regular social tennis and competitions, as well as league teams for those wanting to represent the club. It truly is a club for all and we look forward to enjoying the sport with you this year.

Chris Maggs,
