Covid-19 Update – 29th November 2020

Dear members,

With the end of national lockdown and the return to a tiers system from 2nd December, we are advised by the LTA that we can reopen the courts for both singles and doubles, subject to the maintenance of social distancing and sensible hygiene precautions. The Park is in a tier 2 area but would also be open for play as an outdoor ‘safe’ sport even if we move to tier 3. Members who are in tier 3 (Birmingham or Solihull) must judge for themselves whether they should travel.

The Clubhouse can be used for access to the courts, or use the court gates if possible. The Test and Trace forms will be in the Clubhouse so please record when you are there. We have had one person who tested positive early in November and we were able to contact people he had played with using the list.

As before, we urge you to use hand sanitiser and make use of the head thermometer by the Test and Trace forms to check your temperature. If it is high, please do not stay at the courts. The toilets are available for use at the Clubhouse and are cleaned regularly but we cannot guarantee they will be infection free so do wash your hands thoroughly. The kitchen area should not be used and no drinks are to be made on the premises. The Clubhouse should not be used for socialising at all at the current time.

We do hope you appreciate the reason for these restrictions which allow us to enjoy our tennis safely.

Club evenings/afternoons will resume from 2nd December in the normal slots but care should be taken to remain socially distanced when waiting to play. Coaching programmes are also resuming and Kevin or Alex will let you know about arrangements. Numbers remain restricted.

Kind Regards,

WTC Committee.

Coronavirus Restrictions Update – 31st May 2020

Dear all,

As the Government makes gradual relaxations to the restrictions, the LTA continues to provide guidance. The latest LTA announcement was provided on 31 May and allows doubles for people from different households. As before, it is up to you to decide whether you wish to play and whether you choose to play doubles. As we continue to balance more activity with protecting the community from the risk of infection, please adhere to the following if you decide to play tennis.

🎾 Doubles and singles can now be played by people from different households. However, social distancing should be maintained as far as possible between you and your partner.

🎾 We want to restrict people going through the clubhouse as much as possible. If you have a key to the court gate then it is better to access the courts that way to avoid touching other surfaces. If you enter the clubhouse that should be for access to the courts only. You should not assume the clubhouse is contamination free.

🎾 If possible, bring your own balls and keep them with you for your next game.

🎾 Wash your hands thoroughly before playing and afterwards. If you have a hand sanitiser gel with you that is ideal. You may also like to wear gloves. Avoid touching your face with your hands.

🎾 Keep to the social distancing restrictions before and after the game. If there are other people playing then avoid using courts next to each other.

🎾 There will be no organised club evenings or tournaments as gatherings are still restricted to six people, so it is up to you to contact other people if you want to play against them.

🎾 Alex is now resuming 1:1 coaching sessions. Please contact him if you are interested on 07515356884 or email tennis@alexdoffman.com

We may have to review the situation at short notice if the Government’s position changes but will try to keep you informed.

Stay safe and keep alert.

Coronavirus Restrictions Update – 12th May 2020

You will be aware that part of the relaxation of restrictions announced by the Prime Minister on Sunday 10th May was about exercise and sporting facilities. We have now received guidance from the LTA based on the more detailed Government information released on Monday 11th May. This does allow some tennis to be played but it is up to you to decide whether you wish to do so.

Clearly, we are still in a difficult stage of balancing more activity with protecting the community from the risk of infection so please adhere to the following if you decide to play tennis.

🎾 Doubles can only be played by members of the same household. Otherwise all play must be singles. This is an LTA requirement.

If you have hand sanitiser with you that is ideal. You may also like to wear gloves. Avoid touching your face with your hands.

🎾 Keep to the social distancing restrictions before and after the game. If there are other people playing then avoid using courts next to each other.

🎾 There will be no organised club evenings or tournaments so it is up to you to contact someone if you want to play against them.

🎾 Coaching sessions continue to be suspended and Alex is not doing 1:1 coaching at this stage.

We may have to review the situation at short notice if the Government’s position changes but will try to keep you informed.
